Claire's session was great - and it brought up a lot of questions.
I think there's room in the radio universe for some projects that take a Dogma 95 approach to radio... this is a film thing promulgated by Lars Von Trier and his friends... and here's what their manifesto says about sound...
"The sound must never be produced apart from the images or vice versa. (Music must not be used unless it occurs within the scene being filmed)"
With all the wonderful things we all love to do... It would still be fun to have next year's short docs challenge producers to use the Dogma technique to tell a short story...

I appreciated this well-thought out presentation, too. It worries me though, David, to read about of “constructing realism” and “gaining realism” through manipulation. What you gain is something that seems real, but isn't.

Gale-
Yes. I think that a documenter has to be careful he is not lying to his audience. However, realsim can exist in a work of complete fiction. That is indeed something that seems real but isn't.
As long as people don't confuse realism with reality, there is no need to worry, I think. Constucting realism is different than constructing reality. The listener should be told in some way, though, what is real and what is affect.
