You blog the sessions

Posted by: David Maxon on November 2, 2007 11:46 AM | Comments (2)

At the suggestion of Jay Allison, I thought I'd set up a topic for everyone else to blog about the sessions they attend. The rationale is that I won't be able to attend all the sessions. So, if you have anything to say about any of the events or happenings at Third Coast - what you loved what your hated what made you squirm, what made you happy - leave it in the form of a comment on this thread. Whether I asked you directly to comment, you are running a session yourself, or just attending. It's your thread.

Thanks.

As a youth producer at Third Coast, I want to recognize how helpful and informative the conference was. I have been to other public radio conventions/conferences, but they were all geared specifically at youth. It always seemed like these programs were "dumbed down," often treating youth producers as if they were completely ignorant to what makes good radio. While I don't claim to be any sort of expert, I feel that I know what sounds good, and the session and format of Third Coast really got me excited about radio and its possibilities again. The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of effort to match youth up with professionals in order to allow them to learn more. It can be intimidating to approach people with such an amazing body of work, especially whey you have produced nothing of real merit yourself. Next year, an effort should be made to link up youth and adult producers. I think that both sides would learn more than they think from the other.
