As we have in years past, Transom is blogging the Third Coast International Audio Festival. David Maxon is new to radio, 31 years old with a law degree and running a small business from his home in Brooklyn. As he said, "I guess I could be sort of a poster child for the mission of entities like Transom and Third Coast to channel new voices to radio." So, David will be blogging for us. If you see him on the grounds, help him out. If you're at home wondering what's going on, ask him.

Kogawa: Performance, Mini-FM Part II
Tetsuo Kogawa gave the keynote speech about micro radio on Sunday morning, followed by a very fine improv performance using the transmitters we built in Saturday's class, a few pieces of plastic, and a couple radios. Clip it: A clip... ...MORE >>>

Scrapping Ideas Together from Saturday
I'm a little freaky about conference panels based on theoretical discussions (in this case, the creative avenues available to the radio artist today in North America and Europe and the expectations and limitations in different cultural contexts), mainly because it... ...MORE >>>

More Mini FM
Here's Justin and I with our brand-spanking new FM transmitters. If you're interested in building your own, you can follow Tetsuo's instructions online. It's surprisingly simpler than it looks on first glance. Just be careful--one of our fellow workshop... ...MORE >>>

Break-out Sessions: Mini-FM
A small group of us began to make small FM transmitters today, taught by Tetsuo Kogawa of Japan. He made a transmitter in front of us, then transmitted a signal out of the headphone jack of one radio to another... ...MORE >>>

Absolute Value of Noise
I called the guy I'm couchsurfing with a few times this morning to get back into his house--I had left the cable that would let me upload sounds I recorded last night. When I did get in touch with him,... ...MORE >>>

The Morning with Chris Brookes
Chris is perhaps Canada's most famous independent producer (by default, as he likes to say, as Canada's only real independent producer), and his bio is often embellished with his geographical relation to St. Johns, Newfoundland, the same area that received... ...MORE >>>
